The American tech giant will open up a little more on the issue of third-party iPhone repairs. In the future, it will be possible to use second-hand Apple spare parts for repairs on your own.

The Cupertino company has been criticized for many years for the obstacles it places in the repair of its devices, and in particular its iPhones, by people located outside its networks. A repair service which brings in a lot of money, but which also at the same time leads to bad publicity, which the brand would like to do without. Is this the reason for this decision which has just been communicated?

Used Apple parts for everyone

Independent phone repairers will appreciate this news. Apple has indeed decided to update its iPhone repair policy, and will in the future allow third-party repairers, but also ordinary customers, to use second-hand spare parts from Apple.

In this way, the owners of one of these bitten apple phones will no longer have to take the circuit which was then obligatory, namely taking their device to an approved repairer, who only used new spare parts from Apple.

It starts from iPhone 15

It will thus be possible to change its battery, screen or camera with a second-hand part, starting with the iPhone 15. Face ID and Touch ID cannot be replaced on this model, but will be on those who will come out later. This measure will be effective next fall, which will, according to Apple, have an impact on the environment and the durability of iPhone parts.

Note also that iOS will be able to identify the parts that have been added to the device, to know if they have been changed, or even if they come from a phone that has been stolen. If necessary, calibration will be made impossible for the part in question. One way to avoid making iPhone theft attractive with the aim of dismembering it and reselling it in spare parts.
