Apple will finally sort out its iPads

Apple should completely review its iPad range in 2024. It must be said that the brand’s tablet catalog is particularly confusing.

Recommending an iPhone or MacBook in 2023 is rather simple, but good luck finding your way through the iPad catalog. In Apple’s tablet lineup, you have a high-end iPad Air, but the iPad 10 is better in some ways, although below the line, with an iPad mini that shares features of the iPad Air and iPad 10. Are you lost? Everyone is, and Apple realizes this.

All this is without mentioning the range of accessories that are both complex and not necessarily compatible with each iPad model, such as the Apple Pencil stylus available in three different versions.

According to journalist Mark Gurman, Apple should simplify its recipe in 2024.

Improve the Pro to widen the gap

Apple would like, for example, to add exclusive new features to its iPad Pro such as an Apple M3 chip or an Oled screen, to help differentiate its best tablet from the iPad Air. Today, the difference between an iPad Air and an iPad Pro is very limited.

In turn, the iPad Air should also receive improvements to distinguish it from the iPad 10, but while maintaining the gap with the iPad Pro. Thus, we are talking about being able to choose between two diagonals, which the iPad 10 does not offer, and a move to the Apple M2.

These new models would be unveiled in March 2024.

Then, Apple would prepare to permanently remove the iPad 9 from its catalog. This is the last iPad with the TouchID button on the front and a Lightning port. The 1st generation Apple Pencil should follow the same fate. The firm would then prepare a refresh of the iPad mini and iPad 10 with a simple chip change to gain performance.

If we are to believe all these indiscretions, Apple would therefore like to simplify its catalog without removing options from consumers. The goal would be to update all models to have a range that is still rich, but more coherent and with more marked differences from one model to another.
