The rule in question will become mandatory from June 30, and several criteria will have to be met.
App developers on iOS will now be forced to offer users the option to delete their account within apps.
Simplified account deletion, with exceptions
From June 30, iOS application developers who offer the creation of an account will also have to ensure that users can choose to delete it within the application itself. This is what Apple recalls in an article for developers, indicating that the date has already been postponed to allow them to implement the functionality on time.
Several criteria must be met to meet the requirements of the apple firm. Already, it will not be enough to simply offer to deactivate the account, a deletion of the data will be necessary, and this option must be easily accessible within the application. Next, if the developers offer login using the Apple account, they will need to make sure to revoke user tokens when deleting an account.
However, this does not mean that from June 30, it will necessarily be easier to get rid of all the accounts that you no longer want. If the application is for a heavily regulated industry, such as financial services or healthcare, you may be required to complete additional steps before you can clear your credentials. Moreover, nothing obliges the developers to immediately delete your account, they will just have to inform you of the time necessary for your request to be validated and send a confirmation when the operation has been carried out. And if the deletion must necessarily start within the application, the creators will still have the right to redirect you to a web page to finalize it.
Apple nevertheless reminds that this functionality must be offered to all users, regardless of their country of residence.
