Apple would accelerate the development of its first connected ring in the face of the arrival of Samsung’s Galaxy Ring

During Galaxy Unpacked in January 2024, during which the Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra were presented, Samsung took the time to tease its first connected ring: the Galaxy Ring. According to ETNews, Apple for its part has accelerated the pace to quickly offer a product competing with that of the South Korean firm.

Samsung’s Galaxy Ring makes Apple react?

In an article published on February 20, 2024, the South Korean media ETNews first discusses Samsung’s Galaxy Ring. We learn that the launch of the connected ring would be planned for the second half of July.

Then, the media provides some information on Apple’s projects around this type of connected device. ETNews claims that the Apple firm “also accelerates the development of the Apple Ring by filing patents relating to smart rings one after another†. According to an industry source, this would signal that “pre-development for commercialization is imminent†.

Commenting on this new information, 9to5Mac believes that “The idea that Samsung’s launch would impact Apple’s launch schedule is particularly ridiculous: the Cupertino company always operates on its own schedule, launching its products when it believes the technology is ready and the time is right†.

For the American media specializing in Apple’s activity, patent filings are a common practice to protect its technologies. However, “only a tiny part reaches the market†as a finished product.

The chances of commercialization in the coming months therefore seem very slim, especially since the main informants and analysts have not yet suggested any launch period for a first ring connected by Apple.
