There will be no iPhone SE 4 in 2024. However, the smartphone was to be the first to carry a modem developed by Apple.

A few weeks ago, the renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, very aware of the projects underway at Apple, warned that it was very likely that the Apple brand would cancel or postpone the release of the iPhone SE 4, which was expected for the spring of 2024. It is now certain: the next iPhone SE will not see the light of day, at least not next year.

iPhone SE 4 not just postponed, but canceled

According to Kuo, Apple would be disappointed with the sales of its entry-level iPhone models. Moreover, not only the iPhone SE is affected by this low public interest, but also the iPhones of the main series which are not part of the Pro range. This is why the iPhone Mini was not renewed with the iPhone 14 series, replaced by the iPhone 14 Plus, which is not very successful either.

In addition, Apple planned to change the design of the iPhone SE for this new generation, finally abandoning the iPhone 8 chassis used on the iPhone SE 2 and iPhone SE 3 to switch to a design close to that of the iPhone. XR. A development that would have resulted in a price increase, making the device even less attractive for the segment of consumers targeted by such a model.

Good news for Qualcomm

The decision to cancel the iPhone SE 4, which would have already been communicated to Apple suppliers, will have a direct impact on the main range of the American group. Indeed, it had the ambition to equip this new iPhone SE with the very first modem designed by Apple. The company is said to have doubts about the performance of its in-house modem, and the iPhone SE 4 was to serve as a life-size test before deciding whether or not to adopt the modem for the iPhone 16 series.

With the cancellation of the model, Ming-Chi Kuo believes that Apple will not dare to launch its iPhone 16 with a modem of which it is not sure of the quality. The analyst concludes that the big winner from the disappearance of the iPhone SE 4 is Qualcomm, which will continue to supply Apple with all of the modems for its iPhone 16s.
