Despite its best efforts to launch its VR headset in January next year, it seems that the company will not meet the planned date for releasing the Apple Vision Pro.
In his latest “Power On” newsletter, Apple insider Mark Gurman revealed that the tech giant now plans to launch its $3,500 mixed reality headset around March 2024.
Apple has not made an official comment, but two possible reasons for the delay are given by Gurman.
A meticulous launch
The first is that Apple just wants to do a little more design testing before consumers get the product in their hands.
The second reason is that Apple is still working on the logistics of distributing the Vision Pro.
Mr. Gurman also indicated that the product launch would be very carefully managed. Some Apple employees will be brought to Apple Park in California to train on the device, and those employees will then train other people.
A special area in Apple Stores
Apple Stores will have a special area for customers to test the device. Sales will be by appointment only and there will be no sales by third party distributors. This means that you will only be able to purchase this product from Apple.
Considering the wide range of accessories, such as headbands and lenses, that will be available for the device, it makes sense that the company would want to keep it in the hands of the people who know it best.
Last July, Apple had to lower its production forecasts as the headset’s complex design caused manufacturing delays. Fewer than 500,000 units are expected to be produced in 2024, and the headset will launch in the US initially, then the UK, Canada and other markets later in the year.
