How to use concealer correctly

If you want perfect make-up, you can apply concealer to cover up unwanted shadows and redness. We’ll tell you here what you should definitely pay attention to when buying and using concealer so that the look is harmonious in the end.
What is a concealer?
It is probably the most important beauty tool that belongs in your cosmetic bag. Despite its small and handy size, the concealer makes you feel great in your own skin, but what’s behind it? “To conceal” means something like “to cover” And that’s exactly what concealer is all about. Which concealer to apply?
Concealers are available with different levels of coverage. To make your decision, you should first consider what exactly you want to cover. If dark circles under the eyes are particularly dark, choosing a concealer with high coverage is certainly more advisable. The same applies to redness on the face or unevenness, for example due to pimple marks or acne scars.

The best way to cover dark circles is with a concealer that has a slight hint of red or peach, as these colors hide dark circles best. Concealers with a greenish undertone are well suited for covering redness such as pimples or veins. For other imperfections, you can apply a yellowish concealer.

- Prepare: Clean your face and use a moisturizer, possibly also eye cream. Allow to absorb completely and apply foundation if you use it.
- Tools: The fingers are best suited for applying concealer because the body heat makes the product nice and smooth and can be distributed much better on the skin. But you can also apply the concealer with a make-up sponge or brush and then spread it with your fingers.
- The right application under the eyes: Pasting the dark circles under the eyes with an inverted triangle that extends to the cheek is a thing of the past. For an everyday look, apply the concealer more discreetly. A two centimeter long line on the lower inner eyelid to cover and another line on the outside towards the temple creates a lifting effect. Gently pat and blend the whole thing in without putting too much pressure on the skin. Make sure that no hard transitions can be seen.

In addition to concealing bumps and redness, there are other areas where concealer can be used. We have a few tips here on how you can still use your concealer:
- Highlight eyebrows: You can highlight the eyebrow region by applying a little concealer both above and below the brow on the outer edge and blending lightly.
- Contour nose: To make the nose look a little narrower and more defined, simply apply the light concealer to the bridge of the nose including the tip of the nose. Then blend everything thoroughly.
- Emphasize lips: To emphasize the shape of the lips and make the lipstick more durable, outline the lip contour with concealer. This is best done with a small, firm brush. Then paint your lips with lipstick. To perfect the contour, you can apply the concealer again along the lips after applying the lipstick and blend it.
- Concealer as an eyeshadow base: If you spread the concealer like an eyeshadow base on your movable upper eyelid before applying the eyeshadow, you can set it in place. The eyeshadow lasts longer, does not smudge or settle in the crease of the eyelid.
- Foundation replacement: If you run out of foundation, you can simply mix a few drops of liquid concealer into your day cream as a replacement. The consistency is comparable to that of your normal foundation. And this trick hides redness just as well!
