Aqara launches a Pro version of its G2H surveillance camera. Also compatible with HomeKit, this G2H Pro also provides support for Alexa and Google Assistant.

A specialist in connected solutions for the home, working in particular on the development of Xiaomi’s Mi Home range, whose ecosystem it joined in 2014, Lumi United Technology also offers products under its Aqara brand, including a camera recently. The G2H Pro is not completely new in its catalog since it is an improved version of the G2H released in 2020, but it is nonetheless an interesting model for monitoring the interior of your home.
A very open camera
The particularity of Aqara products lies in their compatibility with HomeKit. As with Eve, all are indeed compatible with Apple’s solution, and the G2H Pro is no exception. The brand also promises further improved HomeKit support for this model, the first in its catalog to be able to work with the classic alarm profiles, “Home”, “Remote”, and “Night” of the Home application. iPhones and iPads. Aqara’s new camera is also compatible with all the features of HomeKit Secure Video, such as package detection, facial recognition or the secure storage of recordings on iCloud, but also with other solutions, including those of Google and Alexa . This is also the case with the G3 released at the end of last year, but not the G2H.

In addition, the Pro model can, like the previous models, operate as a Zigbee gateway to connect other equipment from the Aqara catalog — opening sensors for doors and windows, switches, light bulbs, etc. — to the wifi network of home, and why not those of other brands with the arrival of Matter. Aqara is indeed one of some 200 manufacturers to support the new wireless protocol of the Connectivity Standards Alliance, but has so far only announced an update for its M2 and M1S gateways.
Going back to the camera, the G2H Pro retains the rounded design of the old model, as well as its 1080p sensor, associated however here with new optics: this covers an angle of 146 ° diagonally, against 140 for that of G2H. This Pro version also brings support for microSD cards up to 512 GB compared to 32, but also for NAS for local storage, while the maximum number of Zigbee devices supported in gateway mode is doubled to reach 128. , there is of course infrared vision, motion detection with activity zones, a microphone and a speaker.
The Aqara G2H Pro is already available at the recommended retail price of €75.99. Note that the manufacturer does not provide an AC adapter, only a micro-USB to USB-A cable. In general, it is not the compatible adapters that are missing from our drawers, but it can still be inconvenient to condemn one. In the absence of a battery, the camera must obviously be plugged in continuously.
