Smart wall sockets differ from traditional smart sockets like the TP-Link Tapon P115 and the Aqara Smart Plug, which we recently tested, by their ability to integrate seamlessly into the wall of your home. This is more elegant than a prominent plastic block.
Aqara announces the arrival in Europe of its H2, which has no shortage of advantages. This square socket complies with the most common format with its 55 mm side. It can therefore very easily replace a Schneider Electric or Legrand socket, to name just these two heavyweights in the sector. It is type F (Schuko) to accept most of the devices used today in Europe, including the most demanding, because it is a 16 A socket, the equivalent of 3840 W. A machine washing or additional heating will therefore not pose any problems. On the outside, it is only distinguished by the presence of an LED indicating its status and a small, rather discreet button, too.
Inside we find a Zigbee 3.0 chip, the H2 EU can also act as a Zigbee repeater. It is Matter compatible and integrates very easily with a standard ecosystem such as Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home or even Samsung SmartThings. In the absence of wifi, it will therefore have to go through a Zigbee gateway, like the new Aqara M3 gateway.
This socket takes on the functions of classic connected sockets. Thanks to it, you can of course remotely control the device connected to it, but also establish scenarios or monitor its consumption. To turn the socket on or off, it is possible to use the application, a voice assistant or directly using the physical button. The H2 EU includes a function to protect connected equipment against overheating and overvoltage. It can turn off automatically if a device consumes less than 2 W for 30 minutes.
This model is perfect for charging a smartphone, for example, which will not consume electricity for nothing.
We also note the presence of a memory of the state preceding a power cut. This is a particularly practical function, because some outlets automatically turn back on when power returns even though they were turned off before the outage. Its price has not yet been officially revealed to us. The product, however, appeared on Amazon for almost €140, a very high price.
