As part of Johnny Depp’s trial, Amber Heard said her role in “Aquaman 2” was slimmed down. Now the director is talking about it.

Amber Heard (37) was in court in the trial against her ex-husband Johnny Depp (60) claimed last year that she would only appear in a slimmed-down version in the upcoming blockbuster “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”. But this doesn’t seem to be entirely true, as James Wan (46) now suggests. The director of the film and its predecessor “Aquaman” from 2018 explains that a major role was never planned for Heard.

New “Aquaman” film revolves around Momoa and Wilson

The second part, which is currently scheduled to be released in cinemas shortly before Christmas 2023, was always aimed at, in particular, the relationship between the characters of superstar and leading actor Jason Momoa (44, Arthur) and his colleague Patrick Wilson (50, Orm). to be the focus, he says in conversation with Entertainment Weekly magazine. “I always pitched it that way to everyone from the beginning,” remembers Wan.

He continues: “The first ‘Aquaman’ was Arthur and Mera’s journey.” This was played by Heard in both parts. “The second film was always going to be about Arthur and Orm. So the first was a romance action-adventure film, the second is a bromance action-adventure film.” But he doesn’t go into Heard’s allegations any further. “We’ll leave it at that,” explains Wan.

The trial between Depp and Heard

She “fought really hard to stay in the film,” said Heard during Depp’s trial, among other things The industry magazine “The Hollywood Reporter” reported. The people in charge allegedly didn’t want her in the film anymore and only shot a “very stripped down” version with her. She received new script versions in which action scenes were said to have been missing. “A lot” had been removed.

Heard and her ex-husband Depp appeared in court in the USA in spring 2022 and made serious accusations against each other. He had sued her for defamation. Heard was supposed to pay more than ten million US dollars in damages, and he in turn paid her two million. The former couple agreed on a settlement in December 2022. The actress agreed to transfer $1 million to Depp. He donated the money to several charities.
