(Boursier.com) — ArcelorMittal and Tier 1 automotive supplier Gestamp have successfully tested the use of low carbon steel for use in automotive parts that will be used in vehicle production in Spain and across Europe.

The two companies have signed an agreement to strengthen their cooperation in terms of sustainable development, in particular in the production of low-carbon steel parts. They work closely together to ensure that ArcelorMittal steel meets all of Gestamp’s technical requirements. In this process, Gestamp has a very important role in validating the low carbon steel produced by ArcelorMittal in order to meet the standards of excellence demanded by automotive customers.

Within this partnership, ArcelorMittal offers its XCarb steel recycled, and produced in a renewable way with a declaration of carbon footprint of the product verified by an independent third party. The specialist in the design, development and manufacture of high-tech metal components for major car manufacturers, Gestamp, has successfully tested the first parts.

This first cooperation paves the way for greater use of low-carbon steel in the automotive sector.
