PARIS, June 2 (Reuters) – The Electronic Communications Regulatory Authority (Arcep) announced on Thursday that it had granted a new authorization for the use of radio frequencies to Starlink Internet Services to enable it to provide fixed internet access by satellite in France.

Starlink is the satellite internet access service launched by billionaire Elon Musk, founder of Tesla.

In a press release, Arcep specifies that this authorization was granted following a public consultation, as required by the Council of State when it canceled, on April 5, a previous authorization to use frequencies granted to the American company.

“The contributions to this public consultation have highlighted in particular the interest of the Starlink service in developing the connectivity of mobile ‘white zones’ or poorly served by fiber networks”, reads the press release. (Tangi Salaün, edited by Nicolas Delame)
