Archie Mountbatten-Windsor inspires new parents. As the statistics office has now found out, many little Britons are now called that.

The British like to name their children after royals. As the national statistical office has now announced, the royal names were popular for boys and girls alike in 2020.

Archie, after the son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor (2) born in May 2019 to Prince Harry (37) and Duchess Meghan (40), cracks the top ten British baby names for boys. “Archie made it into the top ten boy names for the first time, thanks to both younger mothers and an obvious royal connection,” the statisticians say.

And Archie is not the only relative of Queen Elizabeth II (95) with a popular name. The name of Prince George (8), the firstborn of Prince William (39) and Duchess Kate (39), ranks second, just behind Oliver, while Harry is eighth. Arthur, the name of Duchess Kate’s three-year-old nephew, and Jack, the name of Princess Eugenie’s husband (31), also landed in the top places, specifically in 3rd and 10th place.

Lili lands in the girls’ top ten

There are also some royal inspirations with the girls. Isla and Mia, both names given to Queen Elizabeth’s great-granddaughters, occupy places in the top ten. Isla Phillips (9) is the second child of Peter Phillips (43) and his ex-wife Autumn (43), while Zara (40) and Mike Tindall (43) named their firstborn Mia (7). Amelia, who finished second behind Olivia, also has a royal connection: She is the name of Lady Amelia Windsor (26), the 43rd in the British line of succession.

Lily finished in seventh place. Meghan and Prince Harry named their daughter Lilibet Diana, who was born on June 4 this year, and at the same time announced that they wanted to address her by the nickname Lili.
