French start-up studio to be listed on the stock exchange, announces that its start-up Poladerme is one of the winners of the Force Foundation’s 2023 call for projects.

The Force Foundation for health research and innovation has geared its 2023 call for projects to MedTech challenges, integrating a major digital dimension.

The Foundation thus contributes concretely to insufficiently covered needs: in connection with regulatory changes, specialties of excellence in the territory, and prospective analyzes of the sector.

Its purpose is to contribute to e-health projects, in particular freeing up care time and aims to spread solutions outside the territory.

The POLADERME project, a start-up from the ICube laboratory of the University of Strasbourg) is therefore fully in line with this mission. Jihad Zallat and Christian Heinrich, both teacher-researchers at the University, have developed a unique prototype of a device for taking spectropolarimetric images making it possible to objectify the analysis of tissues and skin lesions.

The polarization of light corresponds to the orientation of the electromagnetic field, not detectable with the naked eye. Poladerme’s optical system is able to measure this orientation and thus capture physical properties of the skin invisible to the dermatoscope. In addition, the Poladerme device uses several wavelengths of the spectrum, capable of providing depth information, relating to the different layers of tissue. Thanks to a dedicated and patented device, spectropolarimetry measurements are carried out in a very short time.

Artificial Intelligence algorithms will process and analyze the data collected by the Poladerme device. The specificities of each type of lesion will thus be exploited in order to help the practitioner in establishing a diagnosis. These algorithms will exploit a database, established using Poladerme data and biopsies.

This will be the world’s first database of polarimetric properties of skin. This database will allow the practitioner, among other things, to situate the current case in relation to the corpus of cases in the database. It will be possible for the practitioner to carry out requests, according to a list of criteria, and to display cases close to that of the examination in progress.

The image capture device is in the advanced prototype phase. The project aims to develop the learning software part to analyze the data and restore objective image classification scenarios based on the control database.

“The Force Foundation’s support will strengthen and accelerate the development of the data learning system. The fact of having a high-performance analysis engine quickly will make it possible to distribute the device more quickly. » declares Loïc POIRIER, President of POLADERME.
