ARD: Night magazine sent on summer break

Over the summer, night owls have to adapt to ARD. For the first time since the night magazine was launched 27 years ago, it will be the not giving news broadcasts over the summer. Instead, the moderation team headed by Susanne Stichler will be taking a summer break in July and August. ARD has now confirmed the break and also given a reason for the temporary absence.

According to ARD are Remodeling work in the studio the reason why there will be no night magazine in the next few weeks. One would like to use the “released capacities” to advance the expansion of Tagesschau24 (source: DWDL). Instead of the night magazine, a ten-minute daytime show runs after midnight, which can be produced more cheaply. According to the NDR’s plans, Tagesschau24 should become the “first address for the continuous supply of up-to-date information”.

Of the Conversion of Tagesschau24 to become a full news channel was decided in February 2022. According to the current state of knowledge, however, an end for the night magazine cannot be assumed.

Night Magazine returns in September

Apart from the summer break, ARD has not announced any further changes regarding the night magazine. So the show will be return in September and broadcast between midnight and 1 a.m. with a running time of 20 minutes. Nothing should change in the moderation team either. In addition to Susanne Stichler, Anna Planken, Constantin Schreiber and Kirsten Gerhard will continue to lead the show as main moderators.
