AC/DC are supposed to come to Munich in the summer. The group has had to cope with a number of blows of fate in the past.
AC/DC are currently keeping the music world in suspense with a mysterious countdown. The legendary Australian hard rock band, which has not toured since September 2016, has on their official homepage as well the band’s own Instagram channel started a countdown that will end on Monday (February 12th) at 9:00 a.m. Central European Time. Numerous observers and music fans suspect that the group around guitarist Angus Young (68) will then announce a new world tour – and this will probably also take the band to the Bavarian capital Munich.
Munich’s mayor talks about AC/DC gig
Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter (65) already has that revealed last November. Accordingly, AC/DC are scheduled to perform at the Olympic Stadium on June 12th. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed. Also on the official website of the Olympic Park The concert event is not yet listed.
There is also information that has not yet been officially confirmed circulating in the vastness of the Internet, according to which AC/DC will come to Munich for two concerts in 2024, namely on June 9th and 12th, 2024. According to this information, further stations in Germany are also planned .
Fans of the Australian hard rockers are wondering which formation of the group might be on stage at the Olympic Stadium this summer, because in the band’s long history, AC/DC have had to cope with several major blows of fate.
These strokes of fate have already hit the Australian cult band
The Australian band had to cope with a first serious blow of fate when singer Bon Scott (1946-1980) tragically died on February 19, 1980 after the release of the iconic album “Highway to Hell”. Scott allegedly choked on his own vomit in the back seat of a car after a night of drinking in London. As the official cause of death Alcohol poisoning was reported.
However, the Australians emerged stronger from this first major crisis in the band’s history: Brian Johnson (76) took over the vocals on the iconic follow-up album “Back In Black”. The recording became one of the best-selling albums in the entire history of music.
Malcolm Young dies in 2017
Founding member Malcolm Young (1953-2017), Angus Young’s older brother, had to leave the band in 2014. Shortly after his departure he was replaced by Stevie Young (67), who stood in for his uncle. Malcolm Young’s story of suffering couldn’t be more tragic. He was initially diagnosed with lung cancer in 2010. Fortunately, the disease could be treated successfully.
The musician then suffered from heart problems and had a pacemaker inserted. After leaving the group in 2014, it became clear a few months later that Malcolm Young was suffering from dementia. He moved into a nursing home and died on November 18, 2017 as a result of the illness.
Axl Rose temporarily replaces Brian Johnson
Singer Brian Johnson suffered a health problem in 2016: He suffered hearing loss and AC/DC interrupted their US tour for the album “Rock or Bust”. Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose (62) stepped in for him and spent some time with the band. However, Johnson was able to return to AC/DC after 2018.
Phil Rudd’s troubles with the law
The legal problems of drummer Phil Rudd (69) were not of a health nature. In 2014, New Zealand prosecutors suspected the musician of ordering a murder. However, this charge was withdrawn a short time later. Ultimately, Rudd was charged with possession of methamphetamine and marijuana and threatening to kill. He pleaded guilty in 2015 and was sentenced to eight months of house arrest and participation in a drug rehabilitation program. Rudd was no longer on the road with AC/DC in the following years, but returned in 2018 to record the studio album “Power Up”.
Last appearance at the “Power Trip” festival
It is currently not entirely clear which AC/DC line-up would be on stage at the two potential concerts in Munich. The rockers last performed on October 7th last year at the “Power Trip” festival in Indio, California. At that time, Angus and Stevie Young as well as bassist Cliff Williams (74) and singer Brian Johnson were on stage. Drummer Rudd wasn’t there. He was replaced by Matt Laug (55), who previously played drums for Alice Cooper and Alanis Morissette.
