Ex-boxing champ Eubank mourns his son
Sebastian Eubank follows his father, ex-boxing world champion Chris Eubank, into the ring late. Nevertheless, both share a passion for martial arts. The family says goodbye to the 29-year-old MMA fighter, who has passed away with emotional words.
Former British boxing world champion Chris Eubank mourns the loss of his son Sebastian. The 29-year-old was found on a beach in Dubai, apparently drowned. “I never thought that I would write these words or experience the feeling that I now have about the loss of my son. My family and I are devastated,” Eubank is quoted in the Daily Mirror as saying.
Just a month ago, Sebastian Eubank’s wife Salma gave birth to their first child, son Raheem. Sebastian Eubank followed his successful father into the ring late. He completed a professional light heavyweight fight in 2018 and 2019, both of which he won on points. In the United Arab Emirates he was also active in mixed martial arts (MMA).
Father Chris Eubank had a successful time in the 90s. In 1990 he became WBO middleweight champion. Less than a year later, he won the WBO super middleweight belt. He successfully defended this on February 5, 1994 in Berlin against Graciano Rocchigiani, who has since passed away. In March 1995 he was dethroned, after which he was no longer world champion.
Brother Chris Eubank Junior, who is also a professional boxer, was also deeply dismayed. On Twitter, the 31-year-old wrote: “I haven’t cried since I was twelve years old. I cried all day yesterday. I can’t believe you’re really gone, but you will stay in my heart forever.” The two-time IBO super middleweight world champion gained notoriety in Germany after defeating former world champion Arthur Abraham in July 2017. Of his 31 professional fights, he won 29 and lost only two.
