It is essential to always check the composition of your products before putting them in your basket. In addition, products with aggressive washing agents, irritants, endocrine disruptors and allergens should be avoided as much as possible. They may dry out your child's skin, sensitize it and irritate it in the long run.

To take care of the skin of toddlers, parents are increasingly turning to products with components of natural or organic origin, which carry an organic label. But are organic products really good for them? Jean-Christophe Janicot, founder of the INCI Beauty application, answers us.

Are organic products really good for children?

“Normally yes, after that there are some exceptions because brands are forced to do some, especially at the conservative level. There are five authorized preservatives, which are derived from petrochemicals because brands cannot do otherwise. Indeed, for certain types of products, it would be necessary to put a lot of alcohol or essential oils to balance and act as a preservation. Thus, there are some privileges but overall, it must be said that the most harmful chemical transformations for the planet are all the same ruled out.

All those we talk about in general, that is to say aluminum salts, parabens, these are synthetic molecules so by default it is prohibited in organic cosmetics, which avoids having products that contain it. The advantage of organic, beyond the fact that the extracts come from biological fields, is to rule out all chemical, petrochemical, synthetic and environmentally polluting transformations. "

What label should you trust when buying a cosmetic product?

"Organic labeled products are a kind of security to say that we are doing a little for the planet without too much information and without knowing too much. A label like Écocert or Cosmébio guarantees a minimum of criteria, even if not everything is perfect. Since January 1, 2017, there is a new European specification which has been put in place by the French, Italian, English and German certifiers. So if you see the term “Cosmos Organic” or “Cosmos Natural” below the organic logos, you know that it follows these specifications. "

Can a non-organic product for children compete?

"Yes, you have big box brands like Mustela who have scores on average above 15/20. However, it is not certified organic but these are people who are very careful about the ingredients they use. and they still avoid anything that is petrochemical.

Nevertheless, organic guarantees certain things afterwards there are brands that can do it without being labeled. For example, Mustela cannot guarantee that the fields behind are organic. "
