are solidarity bank books worth it?

You save every month on a savings account and you want to put your money into social and environmental impact investments. So what are your options? Here is the list of solidarity bank books.

On the occasion of the week of solidarity finance which takes place from November 7 to 14, we ask ourselves the question: how do i make sense of my savings? Which social and environmental impact investments to choose? While life insurance, retirement savings or even employee savings offer the possibility of investing in green funds (SRI, Finansol or Greenfin labeled), these are not the only options. Solidarity bank books are accessible to all portfolios. Another advantage: your money remains available at all times and a simple transfer to your current account allows you to recover it if necessary.

The sustainable and solidarity development booklet (LDDS)

Since 2020, the classic Sustainable Development Booklet (LDD) has become truly supportive, hence its acronym LDDS. Part of the assets collected from this regulated booklet, a false twin of the Livret A remunr 2% net since August 1, is therefore used to finance French SMEs and the social and solidarity economy (ESS), as well as economic work energy in older homes. But according to UFC-Que-Choisir, this share represents less than 30% of LDDS assets, ie around 40 billion euros out of the 130 billion euros deposited on the LDDS at the end of September. The consumers’ association also considers that the banks’ obligations are too meager: they must pay only 15% of the funds for ecological and social projects. However, since October 1, 2020, it has been possible to make a donation to social and solidarity economy structures from your LDDS. Each bank must have at least 10 ESS partners.

Solidarity booklets

In addition to regulated savings, some banks offer savings accounts whose outstanding and/or interest can be placed in the solidarity economy. The choice of partner associations or funded projects is up to each of the banking establishments. Socit Generale and Banque Postale are proposing to set up a joint interest option on some of their standard savings accounts.

Beyond the solidarity booklets, there is another category: the sharing booklets. The saver undertakes to pay back 25 100% interest received from humanitarian associations or the solidarity economy, for example.

On the remuneration side, it is not Prou. These booklets are paid between 0.05% and 2% gross. Taxation then passes through there, with a final levy of 30% applied to retained interest, and 22.20% on interest paid to associations. Your generosity will therefore be meager, but concrete, relates UFC-Que-Choisir.

Solidarity savings: where to invest your money wisely?

Concrete example:

You have placed for a year 10,000 euros on a solidarity savings account 0.25% rmunr raw. You have chosen to donate 100% of your interest to an association. After the 22.20% tax levied on the interest paid, it will recover 19.45 euros .

to know: If you do not pay 100% of the interest, the retained interest is however taxed at 30%.
