The first buyers of the very last Samsung smartphones have complained about washed out colors displayed on their screens, but according to the manufacturer, everything is normal!

The Samsung Galaxy 24 Ultra are now in the hands of the first consumers. Smartphones, boosted with artificial intelligence, offer solid performance and numerous features which were also praised in our columns during our comprehensive test. However, the first controversies are beginning to appear on the web and today affect the screens that equip smartphones, and more precisely their colorimetry. If Samsung always promises a display that could not be more clear and precise, with millions of colors displayed on the screen, owners of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra are more doubtful, and did not hesitate to complain on social networks .

Less bright colors that make people talk

Samsung smartphones have different settings to modify the colorimetry of the screen. Present in the OneUI system settings, these profiles allow you to obtain a more or less advanced visual rendering that is flattering to the eye. In addition to a Standard mode, Samsung offers another Vivid mode, which pushes colors to make them warmer and more shimmering.

Only, this year, Vivid mode is less than usual. Several regular users of Samsung smartphones have noticed that the display mode colors are less intense than on their previous smartphone models.

To demonstrate their assertions, some have also taken screenshots of a Samsung Galaxy S21 in Vivid mode, and compared it to the Vivid mode of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The differences are quite clear, with colors that are much more washed out and bland for the very latest smartphone designed by Samsung.

A voluntary decision by the brand to improve the visual comfort of users

The controversy took on a small scale and a representative of the brand immediately indicated to the media that a software fix was being developed to put things back in order, but the brand’s communication evolved in a few days.

In a response sent to the Spanish news outlet TeknofiloSamsung indicates today that this modification of the colors of Vivid mode is intentional, in order to improve the visual comfort of users:

We have adjusted the colors and brightness of Galaxy S24 series products to provide more accurate and comfortable viewing during use. Some changes have been made to the display technology to provide a more natural viewing experience, so users may notice differences in color depth compared to older devices. This display behavior is an intentional color adjustment and is not a product defect, so it is safe to use “.

Samsung, however, indicates in its message that it wants to listen to feedback from its users and we therefore imagine that an update could arrive in the coming weeks, if the discontent continues on social networks. In the meantime, Samsung Galaxy S24 owners will have to make up their minds and get used to the more natural colors of their smartphone’s screen.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

  • Sublime screen
  • Galaxy AI + OneUI 6.1
  • S Pen

The successor to the Galaxy S23 Ultra represents a logical and appreciable evolution of last year’s S23 ultra. The only smartphone to be accompanied by a stylus, it benefits from the best of current technology. We appreciate the quality of the screen, the computing power as well as its very honorable autonomy.

On the design side, it drops the screen with curved edges that the manufacturer has highlighted until now on its high-end products. The titanium chassis is solid, as is the new Gorilla Armor glass which covers the AMOLED panel. In addition to improving its resistance to scratches, it eliminates a large part of the parasitic reflections.

The photo/video part is progressing and the abandonment of the 10x periscopic optical zoom, replaced by a 5x version, does not really have any impact on the quality of the images.

This year, the real innovation comes from the software part. OneUI 6.1 remains as complete and pleasant to use, but the change comes from the integration of Galaxy AI which could really be a game-changer. To be continued, therefore.
