Since February 22, 2022, the 23rd edition of Koh Lanta is broadcast on TF1. This year, the program Koh-Lanta: The Cursed Totem came to raise the bar after the controversies linked to the cases of cheating and clandestine dinners led by emblematic adventurers of the show. However, after twenty-three seasons, the program still has many secrets for its viewers. If we would all like to see how the filming of the show takes place, it is because the show arouses curiosity with its popularity and its uniqueness. Between the bottles announcing the tests or even certain daily hygiene measures, many questions remain unanswered.

Following the various controversies, Alexia Laroche-Joubert, president of Aventure Line Productions (ALP) and Julien Magne, director of the program, came back to certain points in order to clarify the means put in place to achieve Koh Lanta. To do this, the two main interested parties had granted an interview to Puremédias. During the interview, Alexia Laroche Joubert returned in particular to the dubbing system to make the proofs of the show. First of all, it is important to remember that it is the candidates, and only the candidates, who take part in the tests. The linings arrive only in a second time, after the test carried out by the candidates. “TEverything is done so that the adventurers see as few technicians as possible and their interactions are only with Denis Brogniart or the journalists present on the camps », explained Alexia Laroche-Joubert. She completed by reporting: “And all the other people present on the set are there only to make their adventure possible and to tell it, in the shadows, by being as discreet as possible”.

Doubles in Koh-Lanta: how does it work?

If the tight shots of the tests are made thanks to the rush of the candidates, the wider shots, using a drone for example, are made with the liners. This operation, unknown to the general public, requires prior implementation. When the production inspects the content of the participants’ bags, before the start of the adventure, it takes the opportunity to buy the candidates’ belongings twice. The objective is to obtain the clothes, shoes and accessories of the adventurers in order to have the most similar linings possible. “We have the position of the adventurers and what they do and we ask stunt doubles – who are also the testers, therefore of the same size as the adventurers – to do exactly what the adventurer they represent does,” unveiled Julien Magne at the microphone of Puremédias. A well-oiled operation that enlightens us, a little more, on an enigmatic show.
