In 2025, Apple could launch a “Slim” iPhone instead of the “Plus” iPhone. An important design change that could set the trend for the coming years.
Every two to three years or so, Apple has gotten into the habit of making design changes that are more marked than usual. After the iPhone X revolution, we saw the arrival of flat edges on the iPhone 12, then the bubble “ Dynamic Island » to replace the notch on the iPhone 14 Pro. This year should not revolutionize the genre, with an iPhone 16 very close to its predecessors, with the exception of an additional button, postponing the next evolution until 2025.
An iPhone 17 Slim
It’s a little music that’s starting to catch on in recent weeks. Corroborating previous rumors propagated in particular by the renowned analyst Ross Young, 9to5Mac claims that the 2025 vintage should see the iPhone 17 Plus disappear in favor of a new model: the iPhone 17 Slim. To affirm this, the specialized site cites the report by analyst Jeff Pu, which has not however been made public.
This iPhone 17 Slim would have an intermediate screen size of 6.6 inches (or 6.55), between the 6.1 inches of the iPhone 17, and the 6.9 inches of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Furthermore, the analyst mentions, for almost the entire range, a new design “ more complex » in aluminum, without detailing more precisely the nature of these changes. The iPhone 17 Pro Max for its part would remain in titanium and would feature a smaller Dynamic Island. This would be made possible by technology “ metalens » making it possible to reduce the size of the sensors necessary for Face ID.
With over a year to go until these phones are released, there’s no doubt that plans can still change between now and then. The launch of a new particularly thin iPad, however, suggests that Apple would once again be tempted by the race for thinness on its products.
A thinner phone nevertheless inevitably means less space for the components, especially the battery. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple would however have planned to increase the density of the batteries of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, then to carry this development to its 2025 range.
Towards a new market trend?
Although this is still in the rumor stage at present, the information is particularly notable. As a good trendsetter, Apple gives the “ there » of the entire industry. If the Apple brand launches a smartphone praised for its finesse, there is no doubt that other manufacturers will follow and try to beat this record… with more or less success.
