"Are wrinkles really that unattractive?" 3 generations tell

We begin to fight our wrinkles earlier and earlier – with more and more anti-aging products. Are Wrinkles Really That Bad?

Our series "3 generations tell"

In the editorial office, we regularly discuss topics that move and occupy us – finding a partner, love, parents, beauty, the meaning of life or our relationship to the job. It is noticeable again and again that the different generations represented in our editorial team work very differently.

That is why we launched the series "Tell 3 Generations", in which women from the BRIGITTE cosmos have their say. It's worth checking out again and again!

Today is about Externals. We asked three women: "Are wrinkles really that unattractive?"

For Friederike (25), wrinkles are a living life

To be honest, I haven't really given that much thought to wrinkles before. My mom has it, my grandma has it, and I'll have it one day. But can I prevent that? Probably not. And to be honest, at 65 I don't want my forehead to look like I'm 35.

Granted, I use antiaging creams every day – but not because I'm scared of wrinkles. In the best case, we are only delaying skin aging. Sooner or later the wrinkles are just there.

I always imagine that as I get older I look at my wrinkles and think back to what I've experienced. But maybe this is just a picture book presentation. It may be that in 20 years I will think very differently about wrinkles.

But if someone asks me today whether wrinkles are unattractive, then I would say: No, they are not. Why? Because they are part of life. And how could life ever be unattractive?

Smooth faces make Sabine (42) suspicious

Although I have been dealing with the topic of anti-aging as a beauty editor for years, I have a heart for wrinkles. I like them – on myself, on others. They tell beautiful and perhaps less beautiful stories, and they are part of life.

If I look into a face over 40 that is wrinkle-free, that irritates me. Not because I would condemn it if botox or hyaluronic acid are involved. But I can read so little in these faces. And that makes me suspicious.

Then a little wrinkle here and there or a bold line – also the much-hated frown line, if you like. The main thing is to be authentic and honest.

Nevertheless, in the mornings I can sometimes understand very well what Dagmar Berghoff intended with her sloppy lift 32 years ago: simply to look fresher. A coffee is enough for me. Or two. Or three.

For Katarina (62), laminating is out of the question

Fortunately, I have very good and fine skin by nature. In addition, I always care for them with high-quality cream, even when I go out in the sun. Yes, I go in the sun, because with a little color I just find my appearance better.

But that's how I discovered them about a year ago – the wrinkles on the neck and arms. What to do Wear turtlenecks and scarves? And only long-sleeved tops? No, that is not an option! I face the wrinkles, because overall it depends on the positive attitude – and that outshines a few wrinkles.

What I don't like at all is that the hands change like that. The skin on the back of the hand becomes thinner and more and more veins and wrinkles can be seen. But to do like Diane Keaton and always wear gloves? No, it is not an option. I stick to it – shine from the inside and cream from the outside. Then wrinkles are not that bad!
