It has been a few years now (since 2018) that it has no longer been possible to take out a new subscription Netflix via the App Store. However, the oldest still benefited from a free pass. But it’s over.

Indeed, if you are one of those who took out a Netflix subscription (platform which deserves its success in our opinion) from the App Store a few years ago, you are now likely to receive an email from the American giant . The latter will cordially invite you to change your billing method in order to continue to benefit from the service.

Netflix tackles billing via Apple

In this way, subscriptions will be managed directly by the American giant Netflix, without ever going through a competing platform (namely Apple). This of course prevents part of the payment (15%) from increasing the Apple brand’s portfolio.

Netflix billing through Apple is no longer available for users who register or re-register.
Some subscribers billed through Apple in multiple countries may be asked to add a new payment method if they wish to continue their subscription

Netflix, like Spotify, no longer wants the Apple tax

In 2018, Netflix indicated that subscribers who subscribed with their iPhone could continue to pay their subscription “ until their account is canceled “. Today, six years later, the American group has decided to no longer give the slightest gift to its compatriot Apple.

Note that another leader in streaming, this time musical, also decided to cut ties with Apple last year, namely Spotify. The latter had already stopped subscriptions from the App Store in 2016 to get rid of this same “ Apple tax “. The measure taken by Netflix will affect Europe, but also the United States.

Remember that while Apple has just launched its new Vision Pro headset, Netflix (like Spotify) has refused to develop an application dedicated to this new spatial computer. Users wishing to use Netflix on their Vision Pro must use the web browser.
