Doctolib plans to quickly offer patients the option to pay for physical consultations in advance, even before the appointment. The platform’s general director confirmed it in the Senate on Wednesday.

Paying your doctor or practitioner can be irritating in many ways. We waste time, we don’t always remember to take our means of payment with us in 39°C heat, and we feel a bit like we’re at the supermarket. So, Doctolib, the leading medical appointment booking platform, intends to make life easier for doctors and patients by opening payment for consultations directly on its site. Let’s see this in detail.

Payment for physical appointments possible online on Doctolib from the second quarter of 2024

From the second quarter of 2024, it should be possible to pay for a physical consultation from the Doctolib application, that is to say when making the appointment. This was confirmed by the platform’s general director, Jean-Urbain Hubau, to members of the Senate Social Affairs Committee during his hearing on Wednesday March 20.

The manager confirmed that the company, which is constantly adding new features, is in the process of developing a system that will make it possible to pay online for physical consultations, as it is already possible to pay for teleconsultations. It is therefore a major, but logical, development that is being prepared.

In practice, if you make an appointment with your doctor from Dooctolib, you can pay for the consultation from your smartphone or from the site. How to do ?

The rules for the consultation will not be open to all medical professions represented on the platform

Today, paying for teleconsultations requires entering your bank card number when making an appointment, then granting direct debit authorization. We imagine that the process should be approximately the same for physical consultations set up from Doctolib.

The company currently uses Stripe, the American online payment giant, for all transactions. But a European player could take over. Regarding third-party payment, it could be offered on the application at the end of the year.

We also know that payment when making an appointment will not be open to all practitioners, or more precisely, it will not be open to all medical professions.
