Are you switching from an iPhone to an Android smartphone? This app can help you

It seems that more and more users are switching from Android to iOS. But for those who want to go the other way, Google has released a dedicated app to help them.

The app, Switch to Android, is designed to streamline the switching process.

Facilitate migration

At first, the application will allow you to transfer your photos, videos, contacts and calendar events from your iPhone to your new Android smartphone, and this through a wireless connection.

The app also walks new Android users through the important steps of setting up their new device. All while remembering what to do on your old iPhone: like turning off iMessages so your messages don’t get lost by being sent to your old device.

Curiously, the Android website page dedicated to switching to Android does not mention the new app and instead offers a method using Google Drive.

Android down in favor of iOS

Will Google’s support effort reverse the trend by increasing migrations from iOS to Android?

Not according to StatCounter, which indicates that Android’s market share has been declining since 2018: it fell from 77% to 72%. At the same time, iOS’s market share fell from 19% to around 28%.

The Switch to Android app is free and compatible with any iPhone running iOS 12.0 or later. Good to know: Apple offers the same type of application, to switch from Android to iOS, on the Google Play Store.
