Hits, hits, hits – the formula, so simple in theory but almost impossible to implement in practice, how to get a band to the top of the commercial food chain. The Scottish indie collective Franz Ferdinand was such a constant and fleet-footed hit company, especially in the early years, that some believed the Scots couldn’t release anything mediocre. They gave the lie to this theory as their career progressed, but the occasion on that cool but fortunately dry spring evening was synonymous with the new release: “Hits To The Head”. So in good German: Hits as never-ending Gnackwatschn. These can be found in the adequately filled, but by no means packed, open-air area of the Vienna Arena. “This tour is also an absolute reward for us,” laughs frontman Alex Kapranos a few hours before the gig in the “Krone” interview, “we don’t need to promote a new album, we just play our bangers – and people go to it.”
