Stuffy and dusty? Nothing there: The Argyle pattern shows how exciting it can be in 2021.

Comedian Olaf Schubert (53) has been leading the way for years. His colorful tank tops with diamonds are cult. But what very few people know: The striking pattern is not just plain checks. The chessboard-like blocks, which are usually crossed with a high-contrast stripe, have their own name: Argyle. It can be traced back to the Scottish clan Campbell from the county of Argyll and their earlier tartan pattern.

The argyle pattern interpreted in a modern way

What may seem a little dusty at first glance can be reinterpreted in the fashion year 2021. Stars like singer Dua Lipa (25, "New Rules") provide proof. She also relies on the iconic Argyle pattern by choosing a brown-gray sweater with large diamonds, which is spiced up with colored embroidery. Underneath, the artist wears a long white blouse, which she converts into a stylish dress in combination with tights.

Harry Styles (27) and actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge (35) meanwhile rely on glitter. In the music video for his new single "Treat People With Kindness" the two can be seen in white suit trousers, which they combine with cream-lilac-colored Argyle sweaters. Glittering contrasting stripes in silver provide a special eye-catcher, adding a touch of glamor to the traditionally decried pattern.
