The hit musical “Wicked” hits the big screen with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the leading roles.
Ariana Grande (28) and Cynthia Erivo (34) will play the roles of Glinda and Elphaba in a film adaptation of the musical “Wicked”. The singer and actress made it public on Instagram.
“See you in Oz”
Erivo published, among other things, a photo of a bouquet with a card from Grande. She feels more than honored to play alongside Erivo, wrote the singer. “I can’t wait to hug you. See you in Oz.” Grande posted a picture in return a bouquet with a card from Erivo. “Congratulations, Miss A. The role is made for you. I look forward to sharing this musical journey with you.”
“In the Heights” director Jon M. Chu (42) will do the whole thing, as announced earlier this year. Idina Menzel (50) and Kristin Chenoweth (53) originally played the characters on Broadway. “Wicked” tells the story behind “The Wizard of Oz”. The film musical with Judy Garland (1922-1969), which is based on the children’s book of the same name by Lyman Frank Baum (1856-1919), is now an absolute classic.
