Armenian police clash with anti-government protesters Yerevan

Police said a group of people outside a government building clashed with police officers and called on protesters to obey the law.

“We call on you once again to demonstrate exclusively lawful behavior in public actions, to obey the lawful requests of police officers,” police said in a statement.

Pressure against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has grown since he moved closer to normalizing relations with Azerbaijan, which defeated Armenia in a six-week war in 2020.

The war, which centered on the status of the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh, ended in a Russian-brokered peace agreement that resulted in a significant loss of territory for Armenia.
