‘Terminator’ star Arnold Schwarzenegger has opened up about his fling with his housekeeper in a new Netflix documentary, giving a deep dive into the moment his marriage to Maria Shriver fell apart.
The new documentary series “Arnold” about Hollywood star and ex-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, 75, will start on the Netflix streaming service on Wednesday, June 7th. It also discusses the affair with his former housekeeper, with whom he met his then-wife Maria Shriver, 67, cheated in 1996. In the trailer for the documentary released in mid-May, Arnie said: “I’ve caused my family enough suffering, I’ll have to live with it for the rest of my life.” “People” now reports that he is in fact referring to his infidelity with this sentence.
“And then I told the truth”
In the Netflix production, Schwarzenegger recalled the transformative moment when Shriver confronted him: “Maria and I went to marriage counseling once a week. In one session, the marriage counselor said, ‘I think today Maria wants to be very specific about something .She wants to know if you are Joseph’s father.’ I thought my heart would stop – and then I told the truth.”

He said without hesitation: “Yes, Maria, Joseph is my son. It broke her. I had an affair in 1996.” At first he wasn’t sure whether the child of housekeeper Mildred Baena was actually his. “But the older he got, the clearer it became to me. From then on, the only question was how to hide it. How could the secret be kept?”
“I love Joseph”
Schwarzenegger said he would have to live with that for the rest of his life. But he also makes it clear: “Everyone suffered because of it. Maria had to suffer. The children had to suffer. Joseph, his mother – just everyone.” He wanted at all costs that Joseph “feels welcome in this world because he is. I love him and he has developed into a great young man.”

Separation from Maria Shriver
The “Terminator” star and Shriver were married in 1986 and their love had four children: Katherine Schwarzenegger, 33, Christina, 31, Patrick, 29, and Christopher, 25. In May 2011, Schwarzenegger and Shriver announced their separation. Just a few days later, the actor admitted his infidelity in an interview.
