It’s not the “generation incapable of relationships” that worries Arnold Schwarzenegger, but the “generation incapable of criticism”.

Arnold Schwarzenegger (76) is a man of clear words – whether you agree with them or not. In a new interview with US radio host Howard Stern (69), the “Terminator” once again didn’t mince his words – and instead took aim at the supposed “generation of weaklings”. In his opinion, mental strength is like muscle strength, which means: “The more resistance you give it, the more pain occurs, the more it grows.”

The actor and ex-politician is certain that anyone who only looks for a simple, pleasant way of life “without inconveniences” will never have a “strong character”. “If you fail, get back up, work your butt off – the more you fight, the further you will go and the stronger you will become.”

That’s the big problem for younger generations, says Schwarzenegger: “So many young people today shy away from it. But actually they should feel drawn to it.” According to the proud American citizen, that was exactly the drive with which the USA was founded. Young people must also adopt this mindset with which Arnie found his way from Styria to Hollywood many years ago.

Education in the Schwarzenegger home

“Don’t start by creating a generation of wimps and weaklings,” he warns. Of course it is important to be considerate. “But don’t coddle people. Teach kids to be tough, to go out and play sports, to study and to stumble every now and then.”

With his monologue, the star indirectly indicates what raising children in the Schwarzenegger house might have been like. With his ex-wife Maria Shriver (67) he has four children Katherine (33), Christina (32), Patrick (30) and Christopher (26) – for whom their famous last name has certainly opened one or two doors a little easier should. The affair with his ex-employee Mildred Baena (62) also gave birth to his son Joseph (26), who, like his father, is pursuing a career as a bodybuilder and actor.
