In order to teach his children a lesson in life, Arnold Schwarzenegger resorted to drastic measures. He has now revealed that.

Arnold Schwarzenegger (76) has revealed unusual parenting methods. Apparently the Hollywood star was not only tough as a “Terminator,” but also as a father. So he revealed in an interview with “People” that he once threw his daughter Katherine’s (33) shoes into the fire to teach her a life lesson. He also disciplined his son Patrick (30) in his own unique way. However, the methods are effective in turning children into great people, he says.

When his daughter didn’t listen, he burned her shoes

On the occasion of his new motivational book “Be Useful: Seven Simple Rules for a Better Life” (available from October 10th), the father of five spoke about how he dealt with his offspring. “You could talk to them about what they liked about their upbringing, because they have very humorous stories,” said the Austrian native. This also includes the story of how he once burned his daughter’s shoes. When Katherine visits him now, she says to her daughter Lyla (3): “‘Keep your shoes on or you’ll put them away, but you don’t leave them there by the stand in front of the fireplace, because you know what daddy did, when I left my shoes there twice? The third time he burned them in front of me and I cried.'” The actor added: “She is now using the same methods that she cried about and complained about. “

He threw his son’s mattress and bedding out the window

He also recalled an episode that happened when his son Patrick (30) was just nine years old. After the boy failed to make his bed, he proceeded as follows: “I opened the door to the balcony, picked up the mattress and threw it down together with the bed linen, the pillows and everything else.” He then said to his son: “Never force anyone to clean your room, clean your shower or make your bed. Because I taught you how to make the bed.”

Another point of contention with young Patrick was his passion for long showers. He told him: “It’s over, no more showers. Five minutes, a shower, and then it’s time and we’ll turn it off.” However, after that didn’t bring lasting success, he thought of something else: “In Munich there are showers with timers that people put money into, and when the money was used up, the cold water came out.” He finally got a timer like that. “And then when he was showering and whistling and singing in there and thought dad wasn’t there, suddenly the ice-cold shower came. And suddenly we heard the scream downstairs.”

His children take it with humor

His children obviously didn’t take these unusual approaches to task. On the contrary: the stories in his family have now become legendary. “Funnily enough, they always bring up things like this with great laughter and tell other people as a joke.” The funniest thing is with his daughter Katherine. “She loves to brag to other people about how bossy I was, how tough I was when she was growing up, and how she didn’t get away with anything.”

However, he wasn’t interested in being a “drill instructor” at home. He himself “simply grew up with nothing” and learned to take good care of the few things. “Every pair of shoes I had, of which there was only one pair, I washed and cleaned every day and then put away.” So he told his children: “I want you to do the same, even if you have a lot of them. At least put them in the mudroom.” That obviously paid off, emphasized Schwarzenegger. Because Katherine and her husband, actor Chris Pratt (44), have “an immaculate house”: everything in the closet is hung neatly, everything is perfectly placed on the shelf. “Every piece of paper, everything is arranged in a row. The phone is perfectly aligned with the computer. Everything is great. There is no kind of sloppiness.”
