Arnold Schwarzenegger distributes gifts and shares his own experiences: He remembers his first Christmas in the USA.

Arnold Schwarzenegger (76) spreads Christmas cheer in Los Angeles. As part of a charity campaign in the Boyle Heights neighborhood, volunteers distributed thousands of toys to needy children at a youth center. The Hollywood star was also among them. In a video that Schwarzenegger shared on social media, he explained how he was inspired to get involved in helping others: When he had just moved to the USA in the late 1960s, the people at his gym supported him.

Schwarzenegger says in the video: “When I came to this country, my friends from Gold’s Gym had a big Christmas for me and invited me to their house. It was fantastic.” The action star continued: “They gave me Christmas presents and they had this beautiful Christmas tree.” He remembers feeling “so included here in America, even though I was a foreigner and had just come to this country.”

Schwarzenegger now wants to pass on this feeling to other people. He will never forget that kind of kindness and belonging, “and that’s why I wanted to do the same thing when I had the money,” he added. “That’s why I’ve been coming to the youth center for over 30 years, handing out gifts and donating,” said the actor and former governor of California. “It makes me feel good that I can share that kindness and inspire other people to do the same.”

In the USA for 55 years, US citizen for 40 years

Arnold Schwarzenegger, born in 1947 in Styria, Austria, emigrated to the USA in 1968. He only had it in September on Instagram celebrated that he has had US citizenship for exactly 40 years. September 16, 1983 was one of “the proudest days of my life,” the actor wrote in his post.
