Around 50 kilometers long – a truck crash on the Inntal motorway leads to a mega-traffic jam

Spectacular traffic accident on Wednesday afternoon on the Inntal motorway near Kundl (Kufstein district): A truck driver (33) had driven from a hard shoulder onto the road. A truck driver coming up (57) hit him on the rear. Both drivers were injured. A huge traffic jam was the result.

The accident occurred around 12:45 p.m. A 33-year-old Belarusian was driving his truck at walking pace on the hard shoulder of the Inntal motorway in the Kundl municipality in a westerly direction. At the same time, a 57-year-old local man drove his truck behind the Belarusian’s truck on the first lane, also heading west. “For unknown reasons, the 57-year-old kept going to the right until he finally hit the left rear of the semitrailer of the truck driving in front of him,” the police said.

Highway closed for around two hours
The 57-year-old’s vehicle then turned and came to rest across the lane. Both drivers were seriously injured. The A12 had to be closed for around two hours in the direction of Innsbruck. A huge traffic jam was the result. For truck drivers, this stretched back 50 kilometers from the Austrian border to the south of Munich.

Even drivers have made slow progress as a result.
