While the adventures of Phileas Fogg in the four corners of the globe end this evening on France 2 with two final episodes, will we see David Tennant again in a sequel to this international adaptation of the famous Jules Verne novel?
Launched last November 20 on France 2, Le Tour du Monde en 80 jours updates Jules Verne’s adventure novel by featuring an anxious and awkward Phileas Fogg played by the British David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch).
Accompanied by his faithful valet Passepartout (Ibrahim Koma) and escorted by the hothead reporter Abigail Fix (Leonie Benesch), he embarks on the crazy gamble of surveying the globe in eighty days, not without encountering a good batch of pitfalls in its path.
At the end of the last two episodes broadcast this evening from 9:05 pm, in which the heroes will have to cross the Rockies in stagecoach then go to New York before crossing the ocean and concluding their journey, can we? expect a sequel to the series created by Ashley Pharoah and Caleb Ranson?
That the fans rejoice, because a season 2 has indeed been ordered, confirmed by the British producer Simon crawford collins even before the end of the broadcast of the eight episodes of the premiere! In this second season currently in production, Phileas Fogg and his team will face a challenge that will once again take them to the other side of the globe.
“We loved working on the sequel to the Around the World in 80 Days and now we’re excited to bring that same mix of humor and emotion to Journey to the Center of the Earth., which will offer an update with a fresh and modern twist to another of Jules Verne’s beloved novels” did he declare.
In collaboration with the French production company Federation Entertainment (Le Bureau des Légendes), the producer is also working on the adaptation of another work by the French novelist, also conducted by showrunner Ashley Pharoah. Journey to the Center of the Earth was notably adapted for film in 2008 with Brendan Fraser, then in a sequel in 2012 with Dwayne Johnson.
