Arrival of the Ocean Viking in Toulon: opposition criticizes government management

The Ocean Viking boat and its 234 migrants disembark this morning in the port of Toulon. A decision taken by Emmanuel Macron Thursday noon, faced with the refusal of the Italians to welcome this boat. But, in opposition to the National Assembly, no one is satisfied with this decision.

After Italy’s refusal to welcome the humanitarian boat, the Ocean Viking disembarked this Friday morning in the port of Toulon. A decision taken by Emmanuel Macron, but which does not convince the opposition. The right has risen to the block in front of this decision, the Republican deputy Éric Ciotti accuses the government of “complicity with the smugglers” and worries about the future. “It’s a mistake, this precedent will be followed by other attempts, and we will have no choice but to respond to it, with the same logic of the current government. I denounce this migratory laxity, I denounce this weakness, I denounce this lack of courage”, insists the candidate for the presidency of the Republicans.

A position shared by the National Rally. For Marine Le Pen, this decision unmasks Emmanuel Macron’s hypocrisy on the migration issue. “With this decision, he can no longer make anyone believe that he wants to put an end to massive and anarchic immigration”, underlines the president of the RN group in the National Assembly.

A decision too slow for the left

But on the left also, this decision is decried, Antoine Léaument, deputy Insoumis, denounces the slowness of the government. “I think this decision comes too late and it’s a shame. It puts our country in a ridiculous situation, we ask the fascists [le gouvernement italien de Giorgia Meloni, NDLR] to welcome migrants and we are surprised that they refuse. Then, after procrastination, when the situation became catastrophic, we ended up taking the only legitimate and human decision, to welcome this boat”, accuses the deputy.

For the Macronist deputies, it is a difficult position to defend, so very few of them dare to speak on this subject.
