Not sure that the new nomenclature used for processors Intel is really more understandable. Not sure at all!

In June of last year, Intel made official a new way of naming its processors. An unprecedented nomenclature which put an end to the Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 and Core i9 that we had known for years.

We are learning today and without it being a great surprise that the American firm will continue with its new way of naming its chips and that the “Core Ultra” will be upgraded to the “200” series in a short time.

The Meteor Lake to Arrow Lake transition

The release of Meteor Lake chips last December confirmed the new nomenclature used by Intel and this is how the Meteor Lake-H processors (the most powerful) were named Core Ultra 100.

Less robust and intended for more energy-efficient devices, the chips in the Meteor Lake-U range retained a Core 100 designation. As nothing is ever simple in computing, Intel also combined Raptor Lake Refresh- U to this Core 100 range.

Unsurprisingly, informant Golden Pig Upgrade confirmed on Bilibili that Intel was going to keep this new nomenclature with the release of the new Arrow Lake architecture.

Arrow Lake, Lunar Lake and Raptor Lake in Core 200?

Scheduled for the second half of 2024, the launch of the Arrow Lake generation is still quite vague. Third trimester ? At the end of the year? One thing is certain, however, the processors will be called Core 200.

Here again, two large ranges are planned with the Core Ultra 200 which should logically bring together the Arrow Lake-H and the Core 200 within which we will find the Raptor Lake Refresh-H. Then, things are a little more complicated since Intel is considering a broader spectrum for the Core 200 range.

Indeed, Arrow Lake-S processors – on an LGA1851 socket and intended for desktop PCs – are also planned for this range. They seem to be called Core Ultra 200. Finally, the Lunar Lake-MX range should complete this Core 200 range to replace the Meteor Lake-U. To see if for this last category, Intel will adopt an even different term.
