Dream goal initiates CL-Aus of FC Bayern

In the first leg of the quarter-finals, the FC Bayern players surprisingly beat Arsenal, but in the second leg Munich were eliminated from the Champions League. The pressing of the Londoners leads to a trend-setting dream goal.

The dream of a treble has burst: Bayern Munich’s footballers missed the semi-finals of the Champions League. In the rain in London, the Bundesliga leaders lost the second leg of the quarter-finals at Arsenal deservedly 0: 2 (0: 2), Frida Maanum with a dream goal (20th) and Stina Blackstenius with a header (26th) scored for the Gunners. Bayern, on the other hand, had almost no chance. The team coached by Alexander Straus hoped in vain to advance to the next round after the 1-0 win in the first leg. Arsenal now meets VfL Wolfsburg or Paris St. Germain.

Four days after the 1-0 win against Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga’s top game, Bayern got off to a nervous start, making a few unnecessary mistakes, with Arsenal being the more active team. Maanum’s dream goal from a good 20 yards out – Tuva Hansen had made a careless mistake in the build-up play – after Leah Willamson’s assist with a back-heel was the highlight of a game that Arsenal could have decided at half-time. Given the numerous WFC chances, the otherwise very strong defenders from Munich were lucky that only Blackstenius scored with a head.

FC Bayern had previously kept seven competitive games without conceding a goal, but the setback was not a wake-up call. The English runners-up, on the other hand, were wide awake and played with a lot of power, so Blackstenius extended the lead before the break. Goalkeeper Maria Grohs prevented even worse with strong saves.

Bayern’s offensive with national team players Lea Schüller and Klara Bühl worked their way into the game better over time, but the hosts continued to create clearer chances. Arsenal slowed down a bit, but remained dominant. Because Caitlin Foord missed the 3-0 after just over 70 minutes in front of Bayern goalkeeper Maria Luisa Grohs, the guests could still hope. However, Sydney Lohmann and Emelyne Laurent, who came on as substitutes in the closing stages, were also unable to save their team into extra time.

In the second quarter-final of the day, FC Barcelona beat AS Roma. After the 1-0 in the first leg, the Catalans easily won the second leg 5-1 (3-0). Wolfsburg, the second German team, will fight against Paris on Thursday (6.45 p.m. / DAZN and in the live ticker on ntv.de) to get into the next round. The Wolves won the first leg in the Prinzenpark 1-0.
