Meta launches a website for Imagine, its AI image generator.

Hardly a day goes by without one of the major digital players communicating new artificial intelligence developments. It’s Meta’s turn to announce its image generator, Imagine, a competitor to DALL-E and Midjourney.

Imagine has the right to its website

Already available within the discussion spaces of its various applications to hand-picked users, Imagine is acquiring its own platform. The tool is now available outside of chats at the following address: imagine.meta.com. Initially, only users in the United States can access it, but a VPN allows you to bypass this restriction.

Imagine is based on the Emu foundation model, which specializes in images. The service offers an image generation experience from text, as we are now accustomed to.

A prompt generates four JPEG images, so you can choose the one you like, which can be downloaded to your device.

Soon an invisible watermark

Meta specifies that by launching an independent Imagine platform, the company wants to give everyone the opportunity to have fun, or even work with it. But its objective is to power its messaging applications with Imagine in order to offer more fun interactions and a new way of expressing yourself. Will emojis and GIFs give way to AI-generated images in our discussions?

Note that the visuals created by Imagine display a watermark in the lower left corner, indicating that it is an AI-generated image. Meta explains that this is a way to “reduce the chances of people confusing them with human-generated content”.

The group specifies that it is working on an invisible watermark function which should be ready within a few weeks. “Although imperceptible to the human eye, the invisible watermark can be detected using a matching model. It is resistant to common image manipulations such as cropping, color changing (brightness, contrast, etc.), screenshots », says Meta. This system should make it possible to combine transparency and traceability without altering the visual created.
