Artist Carne Griffiths publishes 70 prints of “The Platinum Queen”.

Griffiths, known for using tea, ink and alcohol in his works, is releasing 70 limited edition prints – along with artist proofs – to mark the monarch’s platinum jubilee, one for each year of his historic reign.

Based on an original painting sold last year, each piece is made with layers including diamond dust and platinum foil.

“I thought it was a poignant moment to capture Her Majesty just as she was about to ascend the throne,” he told Reuters.

“And as I painted the work, I tried to imagine…the kinds of things she would behold at the start of her reign.”

Elizabeth, Britain’s oldest monarch and currently the oldest monarch in the world, became queen on February 6, 1952, on the death of her father, King George VI. His coronation took place on June 2, 1953.

Four days of celebratory events will begin on June 2 and the Queen, 96, plans to attend several of them.

Griffiths’ prints, priced at 1,550 pounds ($1,960), will go on sale June 4 on West Contemporary Editions’ online platform, with 150 pounds from each sale donating to children’s charity Great Ormond Fellowship Hospital (GOSH).

This cause is close to Griffiths’ heart after the hospital treated her newborn daughter in 2012.

Griffiths’ original sold for £25,000 at a fundraiser in December, with proceeds also going to GOSH.
