Lena Bickel secures a quota place for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp.

Since the Swiss women did not qualify for the team competition, only Lena Bickel and Anny Wu started in Belgium. Both completed the four devices without any major errors.

Bickel recorded 50.632 points in the all-around qualification. That was enough for her to be there in Paris, provided she is selected by Swiss Olympic. The best 14 athletes (one per country) who do not belong to one of the 12 nations qualified for the team competition achieved a quota place.

The 18-year-old from Ticino took 9th place in the adjusted rankings (39th overall). The Swiss team achieved the maximum in terms of the Olympic Games; the men are there as a team. “I am very happy with my performance,” said the 18-year-old from Ticino, who was taking part in her first World Cup. «It wasn’t my best competition, but it was a good one. I was shaking the whole time.”

Wu solid, but not at his best

Meanwhile, Wu earned 48,799 points in the qualification and placed 68th. The 20-year-old from Aargau replaced Caterina Cereghetti, who had an injured foot, at short notice. “I really enjoyed it,” said Wu.

It helped her that she had already taken part in the 2019 World Cup in Stuttgart. However, she did not compete at her best due to her preparation being compromised due to wrist problems.
