Thousands of people gathered in Strasbourg on Monday in front of the European Parliament to demonstrate against executions in Iran and for penalties against the government in Tehran.
EU Parliament President Roberta Metsola said on Monday in Parliament after visiting the demonstration that a decisive reaction should be taken to the atrocities in Iran.
She reminded that demonstrations have been taking place in Iran for around 120 days. “People out on the street are on the right side of history,” she said.
Signs posted by the demonstrators called, among other things, for the Iranian Revolutionary Guards to be placed on the EU terror list and for Iranian diplomats to be expelled.

The EU has already imposed sanctions on Tehran for ongoing violence against protesters in Iran. According to unconfirmed information from participants, around 12,000 people came to the demonstration.
Already 552 dead
The death of the Iranian Kurd Jina Mahsa Amini in mid-September 2022 triggered nationwide protests in Iran that are still ongoing. The 22-year-old died in police custody after being arrested by the vice squad for violating Islamic dress codes.
According to human rights activists, at least 552 people have already been killed during the protests. Among them are 70 minors.
