As early as the beginning of 2022 – Apple supplier Foxconn is bringing three electric cars

Apple supplier Foxconn is pushing the pace with e-mobility. Shortly after the announcement of ambitious plans, the first cars can now be seen: At a presentation in Taipei, the company, which is primarily known as an iPhone contract manufacturer, showed a limousine, an SUV and a city bus. Production is scheduled to start in the coming year.

Foxconn founded a joint venture with the Taiwanese manufacturer Yulon Motor to produce electric cars and recently bought a car plant in the US state of Ohio from the US startup Lordstown Motors for $ 230 million. Foxconn says it has invested around ten billion Taiwan dollars in the development of electric cars in 2020 alone. Investments would increase in the next two years.

Three models presented
The Crossover Model C is a 4.64 meter long five- to seven-seater, which should score with a high degree of connectivity, strong acceleration ability and a range of 700 kilometers. The market launch in Asia could take place as early as 2023, at a price of around 30,000 euros.

The second car model of the manufacturer is said to be the upper-class sedan Model E designed by Pininfarina, which offers over 750 hp and a range of 750 kilometers. The Model E should complete the sprint to 100 km / h in around 2.8 seconds.

The Model T bus, for which Foxconn promises a range of more than 400 kilometers, could already be launched next year. Deputy Prime Minister Shen Jong Chin said it could be used in the city of Kaohsiung in the south of the country as early as the beginning of 2022 if the Ministry of Transport approves it.

Production also in Europe
Foxconn had already announced in the summer that it wanted to enter the electric car business in 2022. According to this, 150,000 to 200,000 electric vehicles are to be produced in Thailand for the Southeast Asian market from next year, and an inexpensive car model is to be built in the USA on behalf of the start-up Fisker from 2023.

The technology giant also wants to manufacture electric cars in Europe. One will also cooperate “indirectly” with German car manufacturers, said Chairman Liu Young Way. Liu did not get any more specific with reference to his confidentiality obligations. The aim of the company, formerly operating under the name Hon Hai Precision, is to become a major player in the global market for electric cars.

Foxconn has also become known outside of the industry for the production of Apple’s iPhone. The customers of the company, which was founded in 1974, also include numerous other IT and electronics groups – from Amazon to Samsung.
