As Netflix flounders, Disney+ continues to attract subscribers

BRIEF // Disney+ continues to fall behind Netflix. While its direct competitor is in difficulty, the platform with big ears now has nearly 138 million subscribers, even proving financial analysts wrong.

If Netflix continues to send negative signals following its loss of 200,000 subscribers, Disney + continues its march forward. The platform with big ears ended its second fiscal quarter – closed on April 2 – with 137.7 million customers, or 7.9 million more in three months and 33% increase in one year. If we add those of ESPN+ and Hulu, we even reach 205.6 million, very close to the 221 million of N rouge. Conclusive results, especially since stock market analysts predicted 3.3 million less. Disney+ recorded $4.9 billion in streaming revenue, up 23% from the same period a year ago.

Like Netflix, Disney + plans to launch very soon in AVoD, cheaper streaming embellished with advertisements. We are already talking about a launch by 2023, but the inclinations of the Los Gatos service in this area could push Disney to take the plunge even more quickly.
