With this new functionality, Elon Musk continues the transformation of the former Twitter into a new multifunction platform.

Among the countless promises made by Elon Musk over the past year (already…) and his takeover of Twitter was the possibility of one day making audio and video calls directly on X.com.

For several days, some users have had access to this new functionality, which is apparently being deployed around the world. Some have in fact received a notification informing them of the immediate availability of this function regularly mentioned recently by the big man of the platform.

Faithful to his objective of transforming the old Twitter into a new platform capable of offering all the services essential to our daily lives, Elon Musk has confirmed the gradual deployment of this new functionality. Concretely, from the X.com network, each user can now call a contact using private messaging.

Enough to compete with a certain WhatsApp (among others), even if unlike instant messaging applications, Elon Musk’s network does not need any telephone number to make a video/audio call.

How it works ?

Haven’t received the valuable notification yet? Don’t panic, the deployment is underway and should gradually affect all X.com users. Once in place, the functionality can be configured directly through the Settings section.

Here, the user can choose to activate (or not) the functionality in question, but he can also adjust various parameters, and in particular define those who will be able to contact him. You can thus open the audio/video discussion to all users of the address book, to subscribers that you only follow and/or to all subscribers to the X Premium service (ex-Twitter Blue).

To make a call, you must go to the Private Messaging section. There, a new icon located at the top right of the screen will allow you to call your interlocutor, depending of course on the settings defined beforehand by the latter.

Recently, Elon Musk confirmed that this new feature would land on the iOS and Android versions of the application, but also on the Mac and PC versions.
