Ask for help on Windows… you will get ads?!

Obviously very inspired, Microsoft has found a new way to incorporate advertising into its operating systems.

And, again, that won’t please everyone.

When Windows turns into a real billboard

Many large companies promote their various services within their products (Apple, Google and many others do). However, over the years, Microsoft has earned the reputation of not being the most gifted when it comes to doing it delicately. One example among many, the Redmond company has recently tended to exasperate its users under Windows 10 with banners and pop-up windows inviting them to switch to Windows 11. And, obviously, it has not finished redouble your imagination to invade you with ads, far from it…

In case you didn’t know, Windows 11 has an app called “Get Help”. As its name suggests, this allows you to find answers to your questions after entering a few keywords summarizing the problem you are having. However, as reported to us by Neowinthe site Ghacks recently discovered the presence of an advertisement in the application. Note in passing that this also concerns users on Windows 10.

When opening the Get Help application, Windows users can now come face to face with an advertisement for… Microsoft Teams Essentials. This is a paid monthly offer of its famous videoconferencing software allowing you to take advantage of some additional features. This advertisement obviously includes a link that redirects users to a purchase screen. The main problem being that this promotional banner shows up anytime, even if your initial search has nothing to do with Microsoft Teams.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the ad appears at the top of the screen and reads: “ Increase productivity and collaboration while staying organized, using a new meeting solution designed for small businesses “. You will notice that the advertisement can (fortunately) be hidden by clicking on the small cross. For now, however, we do not know the proportion of people who may come across this (umpteenth) advertising banner present in Windows.
