With a bit of luck, it will even be possible to upgrade the motherboards Z690… We can always dream!

It’s becoming increasingly clear that Intel isn’t going to drop the LGA1700 socket until the end of this year. An update to the Raptor Lake processors is now taking shape quite accurately.

12e13e and 14e gen Intel on the same motherboard?

ASRock like ASUS do not intend to be outdone and are among the first companies to publish BIOSes whose main objective is ” compatibility with the next generation of processors “.

For the time being, these BIOSes only concern some of the motherboards of the two Taiwanese companies. These are models based on Z790 or B760 chipsets, components launched by Intel in order to optimally support its 13e generation, in other words the Raptor Lake.

This generation was launched at the end of last year in order to succeed Alder Lake and to optimize the operation of this generation which had introduced PCI Express 5.0 as well as support for DDR5 and a new socket, the LGA 1700 .

Compatibility still unclear

A socket that was only to concern two generations – Alder and Raptor Lake – to be replaced this fall by the LGA1851. The latest news, however, Intel would have reviewed its plans.

The big novelty this fall will be the Meteor Lake generation, but this seems to be reserved for the mobile world and low-power chips. For so-called “desktop” PCs, it is therefore towards an update of Raptor Lake that we are heading. An update yet to be officially confirmed by Intel, but for which the LGA 1700 socket would therefore still be required.

Good news therefore since motherboard manufacturers also seem able to upgrade some of their motherboards to this future 14e generation of Intel processors.
