Based on X670 or X670E chipsets, the generation of motherboards for processors AMD Zen 4 is unveiled.

In the wake of the announcements made by AMD at Computex 2022 and the presentation of the future Ryzen 7000, several big names in the motherboard have unveiled their first models.

Already four X670/X670E at ASRock

Among the first to open the ball, ASRock is also one of the most prolific with no less than four models based on the X670 chipset. However, a certain vagueness surrounds the exact version of the chipset: ASRock only speaks of “X670”, but the motherboards are named “X670E”.

There is thus talk of a “small” model with the ASRock X670E Pro RS and its 16-phase power supply and a beefier model, ASRock X670E Steel Legend, the first to offer PCIe Gen 5 on the graphics card and on one of the NVMe SSD ports.

The top of the range is represented by the ASRock X670E Taichi which has a 26-phase power stage, a more advanced audio solution (Realtek ALC4082 + ESS Saber 9218 DAC) and two Thunderbolt 4 ports. ASRock X670E Taichi Carrara is a “showcase” with inserts reminiscent of Carrara marble.

ASUS is the most discreet

Usually talkative, ASUS is less talkative than its two competitors with only one truly presented model, the ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme. It is of course a very high-end model for which the use of the X670E chipset is hardly in doubt.

It’s a 20+2-phase power stage, an Intel 2.5 GbE controller complemented by a Marvell 10 GbE, excuse me, and an ESS Saber 9218PQ DAC. In the video above, it is clear that ASUS has a whole AM5 range, but for more information, you will have to be patient.

MEG, MPG and PRO at MSI

Finally, while waiting for announcements from BioStar or Gigabyte, for example, MSI is the third manufacturer to talk about the powder. It already mentions three AM5 motherboard models with representatives for each of its well-known ranges.

This is how MSI announces the MEG X670E Godlike and MEG X670E Ace for its most high-end models. There is talk of a power stage up to 24+2 phases, a radiator ” featuring densely stacked fins and a heat pipe to dissipate heat “. MSI also mentions the presence of a maximum of four M.2 connectors including one in PCIe 5.0 x4 and specifies that the M.2 Xpander-Z Gen 5 Dual card is delivered to add two more M.2 PCIe 5.0 x4.

The MPG series is represented by the MPG X670E Carbon WIFI card which is “content” with an 18+2 power supply and emphasizes PCI Express 5 with two PCIe 5.0 16x ports and two M.2 PCIe 5.0 x4 in more than two M.2 in PCIe 4.0 x4. Finally, the PRO X670-P WIFI brings up the rear for MSI with a 14+2 phase power stage and PCIe Gen 5 on a single M.2 port.
