As you can imagine, using a mascot renowned for its speed does not guarantee exceptional performance for the motherboard.

Remember, last November, ASRock sent us a funny motherboard: useless (and therefore essential?), the skin of the Z790 PG Sonic was in the image of Sonic the Hedgehog, the famous mascot of the video game from Japanese publisher SEGA.

Sonic all over the map

Apart from a few graphic elements on the heatsinks, the PCB of the motherboard and its BIOS, nothing distinguished it from the “normal” Z790 PG that the Taiwanese manufacturer distributes around thirty euros cheaper.

However, the thing seems to have pleased, since ASRock does it again today. The announcement is not yet official, but our colleagues from VideoCardz were able to get their hands on various screenshots related to the new product, a B760 chipset-based motherboard, this time.

The B760 PG Sonic also seems to use the graphic elements designed by ASRock for the previous model, and we spot, for example, the same “holographic” system at the level of the VRM heatsink.

Formalization on January 3?

The “blue bars” style specific to Sonic the Hedgehog is found everywhere on the board, whether at the M.2 heatsinks, on the side of the I/O shield plate or on the PCB itself.

No photo of the back of the card is presented by our colleagues, but it’s a safe bet that the mascot is ostensibly represented there. No doubt the same is true for the motherboard BIOS, as you can see from the photos we took of the Z790 version.

If the price of the B760 PG Sonic WiFi card remains unknown, remember that the B760 chipset must be formalized on January 3 by Intel. The objective is to offer a more affordable alternative to the Z790 designed to accompany (but not essential) processors of 13e generation, Raptor Lake.
